Life is a series of rhythms. It ebbs and flows, rises and falls. Think of a summer in the woods… it’s a hive of manic activity, buzzing and growing and moving and building. Contrast that with winter… it’s quiet and cold, a time of rest and reflection, of drawing back to the den or the cabin. Just like the forest itself, we have our own seasons. And for us, December is a time of rest. We take this time to celebrate Christmas with our families, hunt, wander the woods, lay out our strategies for next year, and catch up on work on the land.
As such, we don’t have any courses scheduled this month. We’re also taking a break from Instructor Corps Pro Tips and #WildEdibleWednesday, as well as our Weekly Debrief – our last one of those will go out this coming Sunday. The SARCRAFT Outfitter Store will remain open, we’ll still be moderately active on social media, and of course, we’ll still be responsive to messages, emails, and phone calls.
Looking back, 2018 has been one incredible year. It’s been a challenge every day, but always, always worthwhile. The photo above was taken at our final course of the year, Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft: Art of the Baton. It represents the core of what we're trying to build with SARCRAFT... a community of self-reliant, like-minded individuals coming together to learn, grow, and empower each other. Watching it happen before our eyes is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
Over the course of 2018, we’ve watched this seed we planted take root and grow into a movement much greater than ourselves. Our students have taken the knowledge they’ve gained with us and carried it forth into the world, accomplishing personal goals, embarking on adventures, empowering others, and even saving lives. Families, couples, and friends have deepened their relationships while learning firecraft, making a baton, swinging an axe, or throwing darts with an atlatl. Students who met at SARCRAFT have built friendships of their own outside of class, as well as bringing their own friends and family into the fold. And because of this, we can say with certainty that 2018 has been an unqualified success because of you, our students. We appreciate each and every one of you, because without you, none of this would exist.
We believe this is only the beginning. We have great things planned for 2019, and we can’t wait to share them with you. We welcome you to join us in building this tribe, and stand by our side so that we all may PREVAIL together. Have a merry Christmas and happy New Year, and we’ll see you in 2019!
