FAQs

What kind of discounts do you offer?

We currently offer two standing discounts. One is our Military/Veteran/Fire/EMS/LE/SAR discount, which is 10% off all of our wilderness survival and bushcraft classes. Our Search & Rescue courses are not eligible for this discount, since nearly all of our students for those classes fall into one of those categories and offering a discount would be redundant. Another is our bring-a-friend discount, which is 10% off of your registration, for any class, if you get a friend, family member, spouse, or significant other to sign up for the course as well. Both of these discounts can be stacked together if you are eligible, for a total of 20% off your registration. Classes purchased through Groupon or other promotional services are not eligible for our standard discounts.

Military/Veteran/Fire/EMS/LE/SAR and bring-a-friend discount codes can be found at the bottom of each course description page and are specific to those courses.

How long do your courses last?

Our ½ day courses are generally five hours, from 2pm-7pm, although during the darker times of the year we may start earlier and end earlier to keep in the light. Our 1-day courses are from 9am-7pm. Our weekend courses begin at 6pm on Friday night and end 3pm Sunday afternoon.

Is food provided?

For our ½-day courses, we do not provide meals, however, homemade trail mix will be freely available throughout the day.

For our full day and weekend courses, yes, food is provided. We prefer to cook meals as a group, and you are free to participate in this for no additional charge. We fix old-fashioned camp dinners: stews, dutch oven meals, campfire bread, and wild game. These are protein-heavy, high-carb meals that will give you the calories you need to stay fueled during our activities. We also have homemade trail mix available throughout the day. If you have dietary restrictions, or simply want to bring your own food, you are free to do that as well. We recommend that you bring snacks of your choice to ensure that you don't run out of fuel. Learning is a lot harder when your blood sugar is low.

What are lodging arrangements like?

Primitive camping onsite is available for $25/adult and $10/kids 12 and under with no meals, or $50/adult, $20 child if you want us to cook for you.* You may sleep in a tent, hammock, or survival shelter. There are hotel options in Canton (15mins away) for those who would prefer to stay offsite, however, we highly recommend camping with us in order to get the most out of your experience here.

*If you are registered for an overnight or weekend course, camping and meals are included.

May I bring a firearm?

Yes, with stipulations. Firearms are welcome (all of our instructors are armed), however, we ask that you carry legally and responsibly and not draw your weapon unless the need arises. We also ask that if you drink, put your guns away. Irresponsible handling of firearms will result in your removal from the course, with no refund.

May I bring alcohol/tobacco?

Yes, with stipulations. If you choose to bring alcohol, such as a bottle of wine or whiskey or beer in a cooler, we only ask that you please exercise moderation. Bringing enough to share with the Instructor Corps is always welcome. If you smoke or dip, please be respectful of the land and don't leave wads of dip or cigarette butts everywhere.

May I bring my dog?

Yes, if they are well-behaved around other dogs, children, and adults, don’t steal food, don’t chase chickens, and are kept on a leash.

May I bring my kids?

Yes, if they are well-behaved around other children, adults, and dogs, don’t steal food, don’t chase chickens, and are kept on a leash. Just kidding.

At SARCRAFT, we consider ourselves a family-friendly environment. Our only current family-focused offering is Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft; however, you may bring your kids to our 1-day classes, but we strongly suggest they be at least 12 years of age. For our weekend classes, the minimum age of participation is 16. This is due to the prevalence of lots of sharp-edged woods tools and fire. We do offer youth-specific programs built around the Boy Scouts of America merit badge program, but these programs can also be tailored to fit the needs of church youth groups, homeschool groups, etc. Just reach out to us and we'll be happy to put something together for you!

Can you pick me up from the airport?

Yes, we can pick you up from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The shuttle service charge is an additional $50. As a matter of courtesy, we would appreciate it if you could schedule your flight to touch down late morning/early afternoon Friday (if possible) so as to avoid the horrendous traffic.

Do you have RV hookups?

No. We only support primitive camping.

I don’t see the course I want to take, do you offer custom courses?

Yes! We will be happy to work with you and your group to create the experience you want. We do everything from corporate leadership training to bachelor parties. For more information, check out our Custom Courses page.

How do I become an instructor?

We are not currently hiring full-time instructors, however, we always welcome guest instructor applications. If you’re an accomplished outdoor professional in the search & rescue, wilderness survival, bushcraft, or primitive skills fields, or if you are a subject matter expert in another outdoor specialization, we would love to talk to you. If you’re interested in pursuing this further, please fill out a guest instructor application here and we’ll review it to see if you’re a good fit.

I see a course I want to take, but it isn’t scheduled. When will it be scheduled again?

Some of our more specialized courses (such as some of our search & rescue courses) are rarely scheduled due to the fact that they apply to very few people. However, if you have a group (5+) that wants to take a standard course offering that’s not currently scheduled, please send us a message and we’ll talk scheduling!

What is your cancellation policy?

Upon signing up for a SARCRAFT class, you have from your time of purchase until 48 hours before the class to cancel and receive a full refund. Any cancellations past the 48-hour threshold will be ineligible for refunds. Cancellations due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances will be handled on a case by case basis.

If it is necessary for SARCRAFT to cancel a class which you have registered for, we will notify you by phone and email as soon as possible. Upon contact please specify if you would prefer a full refund or a school credit towards another class. Please note: SARCRAFT is not responsible for travel expenses or airline ticket expenses if a class is canceled.

What is your registration policy?

We request that you register for courses on our website at least 48 hours in advance. This allows us time to prepare the necessary course materials, procure food if it is an overnight class, and print out any necessary documentation. If you want to register for a course and it is past the 48-hour threshold, please contact us.
