It’s hard to see a vision of the future when beginning a journey. There’s a picture in your head of how things will turn out, the things you’ll see, the people you’ll meet, and what kind of experience you’ll have.
What actually happens is always different. Sometimes it’s better than you could have imagined it, sometimes not quite what you’d hoped for, but one thing’s for sure - it’s never like you pictured it.
This journey we’re all about to embark upon here is no different. We, the SARCRAFT Instructor Corps, are excited to have y’all with us as we move forward to bring this vision to reality. For those of you out there who don’t know who we are, SARCRAFT is an outdoor skills school based in Waleska, Georgia. We teach classes in wilderness survival, bushcraft, and search & rescue skills.
The spark that caught flame and led us to start our company was this: Over year after year of running search & rescue calls, we realized that if most people who ventured into the outdoors – hunters, hikers, mountain bikers, and others – had a basic level of wilderness survival skills, we never would have had to rescue them. What became a life-threatening emergency could have been just another part of their story, something to regale their buddies with over a few beers. And that’s what we aim to offer. Our mission is to equip those who venture into the outdoors, be it enthusiasts or professionals, with the skills they need to prevail in whatever situation they may find themselves in.
I’ll refer you to www.SARCRAFT.com for a detailed description of our company, mission, instructor bios, and our course offerings so I don’t take up too much of your time here. But I’ll go ahead and tell you the purpose of this blog: To provide written content, articles, and updates that reflect the quality of our company and the level of excellence we aspire to in the classes we teach. As much as I hate to say it, there’s a lot of sketchy, questionable information in the wilderness survival sphere online. You won’t find that here.
While the specifics of what we post may change as this journey continues, what won’t will be our commitment to providing valuable, tried-and-true knowledge that you can stake your life on. That’s what we do in our classes, and that’s what we’ll do here. Just to give you an idea of what to expect, our articles will range across the spectrum and cover topics as diverse as the actual mechanics of wilderness survival, bushcraft, search & rescue topics, field leadership, hunting, firearms, rural living, survival psychology, and the preparedness mindset. We will also post articles and other content from sites we trust, and over time will have guest posts from other great thought leaders in the survival and bushcraft community.
And that’s all I can say for now. Hopes are high, but like I said in the beginning, a journey rarely goes like you think it will at the start. I look forward to where this journey will take us, and I look forward to y’all walking it alongside us.
