The Anorak is a garment synonymous with staying warm in the snowy north woods. It’s a centuries-old symbol of survival in the harshest conditions, and of working and living comfortably in conditions cold enough to kill. For those not familiar with it, it’s a simple wool pullover jacket with a hood, long enough to reach nearly to your knees, with buttons around the cuffs and collar to keep the wind out, and a big pocket in the middle to keep your hands warm. If you’re visualizing a modern hoodie on steroids, you’d be right. There’s only one material for a northwoods anorak, and that’s wool. Wool stays warm when wet, doesn’t harbor bacteria, breathes easily, and is exceptionally durable. In this course, you’ll start with a simple blanket, and transform it over a weekend into a seriously capable coat that any old-school woodsman would be proud to wear. Instructor Mike Simmons will walk you through every step of the process, from sizing and measuring correctly to cutting and sewing – no experience necessary! This course only lasts a weekend, but the anorak you make will keep you warm for a lifetime.
