Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft:
Slingshot
A twice-monthly, family-friendly workshop covering a wide array of wilderness skills.
Imagine yourself as a kid again, growing up before technology changed every aspect of our lives. Wandering the woods for hours, exploring the vastness of the forest (even if it was just your backyard), and pretending you were a cowboy, an explorer, a mountain man, or a wild Indian. You may have had a BB gun or even a .22 in your hands… but more likely, you started with a humble slingshot. Not one of the racy-looking ones from the store (although those are definitely cool), but one made out of a forked stick and rubber bands, and using rocks as ammo. A pocketful of gravel and some Coke cans could provide a lot of happy hours. Lots of things have changed since then, but that humble homemade slingshot is just as cool as ever. In this half-day course, you’ll learn how to optimize and perfect that classic design, from picking the perfect “Y,” to what materials lend the most velocity, to techniques to make the deadliest shot. Because although it’s fun, a slingshot is also a solid option for hunting small game. We’ll go through every step of making a slingshot, and conclude the day with a shooting contest with a cool prize for the winner! Kids are welcome and encouraged to come, after all… they need to make these memories, too.
