Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft:
Bamboo Containers
A twice-monthly, family-friendly workshop covering a wide array of wilderness skills.
Out of all of the basic necessities to survive, containers are among the hardest to reproduce in the wild. Bowls take time to carve, and firing your own pots from clay is a next-level skill. And neither one really lends itself to carrying water over distance. But there’s a shortcut, if you’re fortunate enough to find it: Bamboo. One of the greatest construction materials ever known, this tree-sized grass is used for everything from hunting bows to hardwood flooring. And it just so happens that it checks all the boxes for a perfect container. In this half-day course, instructors Mike Denney and J.J. Morris will introduce you to the endless possibilities of bamboo containers. You’ll get the opportunity to try your hand at multiple bamboo container projects, from making a simple drinking cup to crafting canteen to carry water, and a three-pot boiling system to purify it. Best of all, you can take them all home with you! This is a very kid-friendly class, and an excellent opportunity for quality family time – not to mention a great way to hone your bushcrafting skills.
