Man-Tracking Basics

An introduction to tracking a human across any terrain, day or night – even when there aren’t any footprints to follow.

Have you ever wanted to be able to track an individual after it quit being easy – that is, once the tracks ran out? This course will show you how to move forward and find your subject when the footprints disappear. While tracking is a discipline that can take a lifetime to perfect, this weekend course serves as an excellent introduction for search & rescue professionals, law enforcement, or private individuals who simply want to increase their skills. You’ll learn things such as sign-cutting, the tracker’s mindset, the importance of situational awareness, and why tracking actually gets easier when the sun goes down. Search & rescue personnel will also have the opportunity to practice the tracking portion of the SARTECH II exam. In addition to tracking theory, there will be plenty of opportunity to test your new skills in the field, from short trackways to a full-on search for a missing subject. You’ll get the chance to collaborate with a group, as well as prove yourself individually. By the end of this course, be prepared to have the “tracker’s eye,” that is, it’ll be harder to ignore sign than see it!
