Intro to Rope Rescue

An intensive introduction to the use of rope systems in search & rescue, including knots, harnesses, and hardware.

In this weekend course, you will learn the basics of low-angle rope rescue and how to effectively use rope systems in the field. We will start with the true basics: You will learn about the different types of rope & webbing and which ones are best for rescue work, mechanical advantage and the different types of hardware used in rescue, how to care for and store your rope, and how to tie basic rescue knots, such as the Figure Eight family. We will then take you into the practical applications of rope for the wilderness rescuer: How to construct improvised litter rigs in the field, how to make a webbing harness, how to build a bombproof anchor system, and much more, wrapping up with a mock low-angle patient rescue. Be aware that this course does not involve high-angle skills such as rappelling, however, gloves and helmets will be required for the patient rescue exercise.
