9/20 - Sunday Afternoon Bushcraft: Spoon Carving
Have you ever looked through one of the old woodsman’s guides written by the likes of Dan Beard, Kephart, or Nessmuk, seen all of those hand-drawn illustrations of their cool bushcrafted kitchen gear, and thought to yourself how awesome it would be to make some of it yourself?
In this half-day course, you'll get the opportunity to make a spatula, spoon, bowl, cup, or whatever else you want to carve. Our handicrafts instructor Tactical Santa (aka Robert Gore) will be your guide, and he'll walk you through every step of making a truly special holiday gift, or an awesome kitchen utensil for yourself. You'll learn how to choose a carving block, rough it out with a hatchet or machete, use a coal to burn out the bowl, and make your spoon come alive. This course is a perennial favorite, and an awesome way to get kids acquainted with knife safety and woodcarving!
